With the holiday season in full swing we also find that we’re invited to many holiday parties, glittery soirees and open houses.

Even though you may want to snuggle up at home with your sweetie, pup or simply a great cuppa and book, it can be a wonderful time to do some casual and festive networking.

Take advantage of this joyous season to connect with new people and old friends.

1. Attend Holiday Parties and Open Houses

Even as an entrepreneur there are plenty of opportunities to network and many organizations have lovely parties and open houses this time a year. Check out your local networking groups, Chamber of Commerce or Women’s Business Center to see what they may have cooking.  And don’t forget to schedule it on your calendar!

2. Ask Someone Out for a Tea/Coffee

Bundle up and meet someone you’ve been meaning to get in touch with for a coffee or tea. For some people this time of year isn’t as busy and they might be more available for a casual meet and greet.

If meeting someone in person is tricky, due to schedules or simply distance, make a Skype or Zoom coffee date. You still get the face time that lends to deeper connections.

3. Give. Give. Give.

Send holiday cards (or small gifts) to your best clients, fans, and colleagues. Take your mentor out for lunch. Give gift cards (and a big thank you) to your team. Take your Mastermind group out for surprise hot toddies. It is a great time of the year to show you care and that you appreciate everyone who makes up your tribe.

4. Get Out & Go Local

Take in a holiday craft fare, serve food at the local food bank or shelter, go caroling, attend a tree lighting ceremony or Menorah lighting event. Get out into your community and mingle. You just never know who you might meet and connect with.

It goes without saying, always be mindful that people celebrate different holidays so keep your invitations and well-wishes focused on the season rather than any particular religions holiday.

Trust me, it is easy to write off December but going into pure holiday mode.

Don’t put your business on hold until after the New Year. Take advantage of the holiday season and get out there and connect with others. You don’t have to talk business but you can easily begin new (and foster old) relationships.
