Does this sound familiar?
You sit at your desk spinning your wheels, desperately Googling “How to build a successful business” only to find yourself down a rabbit hole of webinars, opt-ins, and $2000 classes.
And all you really want is to make some traction.
To finally bring in the money you want and deserve…
To have the impact you want to create…
To serve the clients/customers you want to serve…
And maybe find a little bit of space to stand back and finally celebrate your progress and success.
Yet… you sit there staring at your screen feeling alone – wondering how others are doing this whole business thing and doing it so freaking well.
What’s wrong with ME!?
First off – There is nothing at all wrong with you. Not. At. All.
When you’re cruising around the inter webs you come across all these glamours entrepreneurs selling what? Being a glamorous entrepreneur.
They are selling their systems, their blueprints, their road map and their expert advice.
So of course they talk about their rags to riches story (the one where they did it all in under 12 months) or how they’ve helped thousands of people – just like you – finally break the $100k mark in less than 6 months.
All the things you wish for yourself.
Remember they’re selling you on buying their solution.
So here’s the thing.
Stop watching, coveting and dreaming that you’re the next Business Diva fancy pants.
And instead get down to business.
Real business … not the glossy, pretend version working away while sipping coffee at a cafe fully made up, hair professionally styled with nothing but a laptop and brilliant ideas.
I’m talking about the real person.
The one pounding away creating great stuff in her yoga pants, papers strewn about, squeezing in her dreams before/after her full-time job or before picking up the kids from school.
The dreamers who aren’t willing to sacrifice their health and relationships on their business yet still want to make a significant impact.
The heart-centered entrepreneurs who want to make a difference, create some freedom and space in their lives and make a sustainable living doing so.
It’s time to take real action.
One of the biggest points that the online gurus seem not to share is that you need a peer group, a posse, a tribe, a sisterhood of other entrepreneurs who you can rely on.
A peer mastermind group where you bring your ideas, struggles and challenges to the group and brainstorm ways to move through it.
A group of women who keep you accountable, have your back and help you manage this weird wild road of business.
It’s because it requires a lot of work to bring a small group of people together live each week for a particular amount of time. It requires a commitment by each woman who shows up.
But it really is crucial.
Here are some ways to know you may need to finally join/create a mastermind group for yourself.
1 | You Know There Must Be A Better Way
You look at all the crazy programs, webinars and “stuff” marketed to you and you scream to no one in particular “ENOUGH!” as you slam your laptop down and walk away from your desk.
If you spent anytime cruising the inter webs you know there are a million ways to go about bringing your business to the world or making a bigger impact with your business. But with every click, you think to yourself, “There must be a better way!”.
That is seriously the first step – knowing that all the surfing and consuming of information isn’t really moving you forward. Awareness is key.
In your heart you know that if so many others have created successful businesses why are you sitting at your desk trying to recreate the wheel.
2 | You Are Tired Of Doing It Alone
You find yourself sharing a business win with a disinterested but polite barista of your local coffee shop.
You dream of having a team or an assistant or simply someone else who you can share the daily schizophrenic feelings you experience. The crazy ups and downs of business. You wish you had someone you can bounce ideas off of… regularly.
3 | You Wish You Had Someone To Talk To
You start talking to your dog, your toddler or your confused-looking spouse only to realize that they simply aren’t listening.
Running a business is HARD! There are so many moving pieces and so many decisions to make each and every day. You know there must be other people going through the exact same things but in your social circles most people just stare at you blankly when you talk about life as a solo business owner.
4 | There Are So Many Options. Which One Is Best?
You spend countless hours researching the best (fill in the blank).
Email provider, site platforms, bookkeeping software, WordPress plugins, hosting company, social media platforms … the list goes on!
There are so many options and let’s face it you just want to pick one and move on.
You didn’t sign up to be a web developer or to spend all your time on the Internet… You just want to get to your creative genius and do the real work!
But as entrepreneurs there is a LOT to learn at every stage and the options are abundant and confusing.
Not only is difficult to determine which one is the best but which one is best for you at this stage of your business?
You don’t need some fancy customer management system that costs $200 a month if you have a list of 100 and no plans to make your site or offerings super complicated.
5 | You Know If You Reported To Someone S**T Would Get Done
You look at your projects and to-do lists and somehow they’ve been there since last year.
Let’s be honest… if you were working a traditional job, you know that project of yours would get done. Your job, your paycheck, your reputation would count on it.
So why do we drag our feet and spin in a cycle of procrastination when it’s our own projects?
It’s because we have no one to keep us accountable. We have no one to report our progress to. We have no one coming in to check if you’re keeping to your deadlines. You can’t pop into your peers office for some advice or support or to ask to collaborate. It’s ALL YOU!
If any of these resonate with you, you’re not alone.
We weren’t meant to build a business all alone in isolation with no support, guidance or connection.
Maybe it’s time to find a group of peer to connect with.
Consider starting or joining a mastermind group where you can get the support you need.
