It’s So Easy to Give Up

It’s so easy to give up.

To give up your goal
To give up when things get rough
To give up after a few missteps
To give up when things don’t go as planned or your way
To give up on yourself

That’s the easiest path out.

But…  if in your heart you know you want that goal or to reach that certain milestone, step or destination… then it’s time to keep going.

Reflect.

Is this goal YOUR goal or something you feel like you “should” do? Is the voice in your head that’s telling you to do it your voice or the voice of a professor, mentor, parent or some online expert?

Respond.

When you think of your goal does it feel expansive or do you want to contract into a ball?  How do you respond? Is it something you really want to work towards?  Do you feel bold, uplifted and excited … and maybe a bit scared only because you’re pushing outside your comfort zone.  If the goal feels heavy, dark, oppressive and icky – then it may not be a goal worth pursuing and it’s time to let that one go.  But it’s important to figure this out.

Ask.

Ask yourself what you need to learn at this juncture.  Often we are faced with some truths or lessons that we need to process and understand.  Where are you at with this goal? WHY haven’t things worked out? What are the factors that I have control over and the factors I do not have control over?  There are important lessons to be learned when we’re at a crossroads. What are they?

Believe.

For a goal worth chasing after and not giving up on you have to work on your mindset. One aspect is to lean into truly believing in your abilities and in yourself. When I say this – I mean with your whole being.  Believe in yourself by drawing on every fiber of your person to fully deeply believe in yourself. This belief will keep you moving forward even when things are tough.

Support.

Often we are trying to be and do it all. And, we do it all in isolation.  It is much easier to give up when you look around and realize no one is really watching.  Or, when you don’t have the support or team of others cheering you on.  We are instinctively a tribal breed and we work best in groups with the support of other people.

If you’re feeling like giving up on your goals because your recent launch saw only a few sign ups – chat with a friend.

If you feel like you want to throw your computer out the window because yet another widget has pulled your whole site offline – call up your business pal who probably has been there too many times to count.

If you want to scrap that big idea because you think it’s already been done (it probably has and that’s ok!) or you want to throw up your hands in defeat because you’re overwhelmed by everything … find some support.

Please don’t take the easy way out … and give up.

Typically success is just around the next corner.
