Too Much Reacting… Too Little of This.

Last week in our private Circles Facebook page I spoke about the importance of focusing on one big goal.

I get so much push back on this each and every time a new Circle session starts.

Over the last year with all the resisting and the ignoring I thought to myself, “Maybe I shouldn’t push this all the time so much.”

Then a more certain voice (you know that bossy gal in your head who often really knows best) says “No. Stick to it.”

Without fail… I get comments from women in our groups about how thankful they were for me keeping them focused on their one goal.

We are so often reacting to our lives, our businesses, and to the world.

…We react to our email
…We react to requests made to us.
…We react to the news.
…We react to other people’s sales pitches.
…We react to our own bottomless to-do lists.

My goal is to get women out of reaction mode and to get into thoughtful, intentional purposeful (and purpose-driven) action.

So why is focusing on one thing at a time — one goal, one project, one ambitious dream — so freaking important?

PRIORITIES + FOCUS:

Of course I had a whole list but I’m going to focus (yes pun intended) on this one today!

We often think everything is a priority in our business.

We have to:

  • Rework our website (like yesterday!) for the fifth time
  • Quickly create three courses or products at a time (people need options)
  • Attend every networking mixer
  • Say yes to every invitation
  • Answer all emails the same day
  • Watch every webinar, freebie, 3-video series, free class and so on

Everything is so urgent and yet … it really isn’t.

Why do we act (and react) to everything as though it is an urgent priority these days?

Fear!

Fear that if we don’t do every summit, interview or podcast that we might miss out.

Fear that if we don’t do it like the big players, we look like amateurs and no one will buy from us.

Fear if we don’t move fast enough we’ll be left behind.

Fear if we aren’t on every social media platform we won’t be found.

Fear that someone might just find out that we aren’t perfect (gasp!).

Fear if we narrow in too much we limit possibilities.

Fear if we of focus and commit on one thing and it doesn’t work out, we have wasted time, resources and energy.

Fear we don’t have enough, are enough, or will ever be enough to be successful on our own terms, going our own speed.

So let’s just stop.

Let’s stop and look at our lives, our work, our priorities.

What are the MOST important areas and aspects of your life?

How exactly does your business fit into this? And what do you truly want out of your business?

What one goal or target, if reached within 90 days (or 6 months or a year, you choose) would get you one large step forward towards creating the business you desire?

What one goal? Just one!

Yes you have to commit.
Yes there are no guarantees.
Yes you have to have faith – in yourself, your abilities, and the process.

If you carved out 4 hours a day over the next 90 days, what awesome goal could you accomplish?
