Your Business Needs Your Stories is an introduction to purpose-told marketing stories for any business owner / marketer.

Janet Wentworth, partner in The 10X Group and author of Your Unstoppable Brand is your guide for this lively and content-rich course.

In this course:

You will have access to seven rich, explanatory videos covering:

  • What makes for a good story
  • How to get started writing
  • How to improve your stories
  • Where to use stories
  • Real life examples for illustration of great storytelling

The lessons are accompanied by hands-on exercises to get you writing basic stories and then refining them. There are no prerequisites to the this course–other than a love of your business and a desire to improve your marketing and grow your business. No doubt you already have both!

“Why should I take this class?”

The most effective way to get someone to change the way they think or to take action is through story. But the word “story” has many meanings and not all of them are useful to the business owner. Much of the content on the web about marketing storytelling is misleading and will get you creating funny cat videos but not help you make a sale. Don’t confuse story with entertainment (although stories can be entertaining). Spend your time on purpose-told stories that  will engage your ideal customers and build an unstoppable brand.

Course includes:

  • 7 instructional and action-oriented videos at 6-20 minutes each. Created with Janet’s own animation (so fun!) adding another dimension to her content-rich and engaging instruction.
  • Exercises that prompt you to develop your own story and tools to refine your story for your specific audience.
  • Evolution of a story example that illustrates the steps taken to create a quality story.
  • Opportunity to ask questions of the instructor via the virtual Café.
  • Connection and interaction with other students taking the course via the virtual Café.

About the Instructor

Janet-linkedin-headshot copyI started my professional career as a food sensory analyst. But, as so often happens, life had other ideas for me. So my journey included retail sales, corporate accounting, software support, software sales, sales training, end user program development, web development, graphic design, travel writing, small business marketing and a few other career roundabouts. I finally found my home with the Small Business Development Center (if you are not familiar with this network of small business support programs, it is a US federal program that offers no-cost one-on-one business advising to business owners plus workshops on a wide variety of business topics).

I work with several of these programs in Northern California and over the past 8+ years I have worked with hundreds of small business owners, struggling with too much to do, not enough time, not enough money … but always with a lot of passion and grit for starting and growing their businesses. I love working with these owners because they are so full of life and optimism. A few have been natural marketers but many struggle with marketing–sometimes from no experience and all-to-frequently from lack of confidence. When I discovered marketing storytelling it was a revelation. Not only did it tie up all the seemingly disparate elements in my background, I found that all these clients had powerful stories to tell but were reluctant to talk about them. My campaign to bring the power of storytelling to the small business owner had begun!
I am the author of Your Unstoppable Brand: The practical guide to engaging your ideal customers through the power of stories, a certified Business Advisor with the Small Business Development Center, a Certified Guerilla Marketing Coach and have a Master Certificate in Internet Marketing from the University of San Francisco. I am also a partner in The 10X Group, a Northern California entrepreneurship consultancy.
