Here at LearnSavvy we get a ton of questions about creating courses. Many people think it is incredibly complicated and time consuming but honestly, it couldn’t be easier.
The hardest part of coming up with truly great content that entices and engages your audience. Find some awesome tips here.
After you have your content ready then filming, editing and uploading it is a snap.
To help you on your way we have provided a list of resources:
Tech Tools
We’re Mac lovers here at LearnSavvy so our knowledge and suggestions will lean towards what we know.
Pages
Pages (like Word) is great for creating workbooks, cheat sheets and so forth. You can easily save them as PDFs if you’d like
Keynote
So easy to use. If you’re familiar with Powerpoint, you won’t have a problem with Keynote. Once you create your slideshow it is super simple to overlay your audio and then save the whole file to Quicktime.
Presentation software
There are some cool presentation software out there. We’re still trying to understand if you can utilize voice over to really make them more useful. Check them out and let us know if they work for you: eMaze and Prezi and PowToon.
Filming
iPhone
A few of our instructors have filmed their class via their iPhone. Smartphones are a great option if you don’t want to invest in fancy video equipment.
MacBook
I’ve used my MacBook for years to film videos using iMovie. I usually have to stack it on top of a bunch of books to make sure I don’t look like I have a double chin.
Additional equipment
External mic
I have an external microphone Logitech USB Desktop Microphone that I use with Keynote presentations. It just makes the sound much crisper.
External webcam
If you want to up the quality of your videos we recommend getting a simple webcam such as Logitech HD Pro Webcam.
Softbox
Now we’re really upping the fancy factor. When doing videos, the lighting can really make or break the look of your videos. A solution: softboxes. There are a ton of different ones you can chose. Cowboy Studios is a great place to purchase them.
Cool Tools
Canva
We love love love Canva. It’s free and offers a ton of options to create images that really pop. It’s super easy to use yet they also offer tons of tutorials if you need help. PicMonkey is a great one as well.
Stock Images
There are so many fantastic new stock photos places to explore. We love Stocksy (paid) and PicJumbo (free). Make sure you have rights to all your photos (don’t borrow from the Internet) because you will get letters years later saying you own – big time – for using them illegally.
Music
You cannot just add any music you like to your videos (copyright infringement!) but there are options to locate free and royalty free music you can use. Check this site out.
Creating & Editing Videos
iMovie
Creating movies is super simple in iMovie. You just open up the application and go. Then you can have a whole lotta fun editing with a ton of options to create intros, outros, add music and other graphics. Sky’s the limit!
Screenflow
Screenflow is a wonderful service if you want to record your computer screen. You can show people exactly what you’re doing on your computer and allows for voice over. There is also Screencast, Camtasia and Screen-o-matic
Housing & Hosting Videos
Dropbox
When creating a ton of videos, we recommend getting them off your hard drive and saving them to Dropbox. You can also share your videos with others (like sending them to LearnSavvy) and upload your videos from Dropbox to Vimeo or YouTube.
Vimeo
We love using Vimeo because they offer so many additional features that YouTube just doesn’t offer. You can also set your intro and outro to be what you desire and you can also set the level of privacy.
We hope this will get you started on your way to creating amazing content-rich content for your audience and perhaps even ours!
If you’re ready to take your knowledge and share it with the world – we welcome you to submit your proposal to us here at LearnSavvy. For more information – click here.
