You can learn a lot from interviewing over 100 women entrepreneurs (read more here) over the course of one year.
It wasn’t just a one time series of interviews because even today as I interview women business owners for our projects and upcoming podcast show, the same traits, motivations and mindset are seen in those that are successful.
And a craving for cultivating these traits and tools by those who don’t have them… yet!
5 Traits of Empowered Women Entrepreneurs:
1. Mindset: Face Fear
Empowered women entrepreneurs are just as fearful as the rest of us. They lay awake from time to time wondering if they’ve made a huge mistake or are close to losing it all. The big difference is that empowered women business owners know that fear is there and do it anyway. They listen to their gut but don’t listen to their fears. They don’t let fearful thoughts stop them from pursuing their purpose.
Question: What scares you the most? What would you do if you didn’t hold that fearful thought? How would your life look different?
2. Motivation: Define Success Differently
Nearly every person I spoke to was motivated by something other than the typical (and masculine) big three: money, power, and status. One of the main drivers that motivates most empowered female entrepreneurs goes beyond themselves – it has to do with the people they touch. They are motivated to serve others with their product or service, build and nurture great teams, care for their families and children, and contribute to their communities in impactful ways.
Question: What motivates you? What really drives you to start your own venture… and continue working it each day?
3. Behavior: Take Action
Empowered female entrepreneurs are very busy however their actions are not without purpose. They are consistently taking intentional, thoughtful and strategic steps to move forward in their business. They thoughtfully plan AND intentionally act. Action for them creates clarity – they don’t wait to become perfectly clear to take action.
Question: Have you taken the time to thoughtfully plan? What small intentional action can you make today to move your business forward?
4. Connection: Regularly Connect
Women are natural connectors however when it comes to business many go at it alone. Why re-create the wheel or move at a snail’s pace when you can learn and grow together. Tide rises all boats, right? The women I interviewed strongly advised to find other women and create support or Mastermind groups. They found that was one of the quickest ways to success. Not sure where to find one? Look no further: LearnSavvy’s Savvy Circles.
Question: How can I find, join, or create a group of other women business owners where we all powerfully learn, support and grow together?
5. Energy: They Know Balance is a Myth
We’ve been sold a rotten bag of goods over the last 40 years, “You can have it all!”. Yes, it’s true we are incredibly fortunate to have so much available to us however it’s near impossible to have it all at the same time.
The myth of having a booming business plus kids plus a thriving social life, plus a perfect marriage, plus training for a marathon plus a clean house, plus sleep, plus plus plus. It can be just too much. The empowered women I spoke to knew that striving for “balance” in all areas sets women up for failure. They realize that some sacrifices are made at certain times and that in order to live the life they desire they have to intentionally make choices. Priorities over perfect balance.
Question: Are you striving to have balance in your life? Are you feeling overwhelmed? What is your top priority in your life today?
Empowered women business owners may seem to have something the rest of us don’t possess.
But that’s just wrong.
You can cultivate the same qualities they have. You just need to recognize that you probably already have them but they need to be coaxed out and nurtured.
They are not lucky, gifted or privileged. They have learned to face fear, they know what drives them, they purposefully take action towards their dreams, they powerfully connect in small groups of like-minded women, and they resist striving for perfect balance.
These five qualities taken together may help propel you forward towards finding the success you desire and deserve.
