9 Uncommon Ways to Find Clarity When You’re Ridiculously Unclear

Every time you start a program related to your business, I find that instructors love to talk about clarity. They make it seem so easy. Like just another item to check off your to-do list.

“You have to have clarity.” they command before you begin any program.

Easier said then done.

But what happens when you’re ridiculously unclear, muddled and have way too much fuzziness right now to have any clear thoughts, ideas or strategies.  You have so many ideas, different directions to explore and strategies to try out that you’re spinning in circles.

Chasing after clarity can be like trying to catch a fish with your bare hands (not that I know about that but I do have to remove our goldfish from his tank every week so I can clean the bowl – let me tell you – they’re slippery things!)

In your gut/heart/inner being you need to do something, try a new avenue when things are just not presenting themselves in the way you’d hope.

So what can you do when you’re confused so you can get clear ASAP.

1 | Use Value Filters

When you’re having a hard time trying to figure things out use your values as a filter.  If you value the freedom to live anywhere than you wouldn’t want to create a brick and mortar business. If you have 2 wee ones at home with no care, you may not want to take on a massive time-heavy project at the moment. What do you value right now? When weighing your options narrow your choices and make decisions through this powerful filter.

2 | Get It Out

Get all your thoughts and ideas out of your head and on paper. Often we have too much swirling around to make any sense of things. For many people, they can process, unearth and refine by getting their thoughts out on paper . Solutions, direction and new ideas may appear. Take out a few sheets of blank paper and write for a 5 minutes without stopping. I’ve provided some prompts here to get you started.  Click Here for Clarity Worksheet!

3 | Tiny Acts Create Big Impact

I believe you won’t get far by staring at your computer trying to ‘discover’ clarity or writing out a simple pro/con lists. You have to act. You don’t have to make huge leaps but tiny actions can create big impact. Create a landing page and direct people to it to see if there is interest in a new product idea. Go out and talk to your ideal customer. Put something out that isn’t finished and see if you can get some beta users. Clarity often comes when you’re in motion.

4 | Stop Learning. Start Implementing

We all suffer from over learning. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE to learn new techniques, strategies and ways of doing business but often we use learning more as a procrastination tool. “Just one more course and I’ll feel confident enough to do xyz.” No!  You need to start getting to work. You need to put the courses away, the books down and remove the ear buds connected to the latest webinar or podcast. You can’t search for clarity in other people’s blueprints. If anything listening to more courses will only make things more muddled and cloudy.  Take a temporary vacation from learning so you can make some clear decisions.

5 | Know Thy Self

Sometimes we butt up against finding clarity because of underlying issues. As Gay Hendricks talks about in The Big Leap, we often have unconscious Upper Limits that prevents us from taking big leaps in our lives. We have a set thermostat of how much success, abundance, love and happiness we will allow ourselves to have. When we get close to that point we do things to self-sabotage and push us back inside our comfort zone. If to you clarity means taking action and those next steps are scary or outside your comfort zone then you may be sabotaging any chance at getting clear to begin with. Twisted but it happens a lot! Check in and see what internal chatter is getting in the way.

6 | It’s OK to Pivot

Just because you started down one road doesn’t mean you need to continue that course. We know a whole lot about this! You may be having a tough time getting clear on your next steps because you’re trying to make them fit into your current path. Is it time to pivot? Is it time to boldly change directions by letting some other things go. Are you muddled because you’re still tied to old ideas and directions for your business? Take a step away from your business and look at it from fresh eyes. Imagine you are a consultant hired by your business to evaluate its health. What would you suggest to your client? May look very different then the business you started with.

7 | Surrender

This has to be one of the toughest of the tips here. I resisted, of course, this one for a long time. I fought to figure out clarity. I struggled to make things happen. I pushed, pulled, tugged, argued and seduced clarity to come forth.  And it just didn’t work.  You need to give yourself the space to surrender.  It isn’t flaky or giving it. It is a powerful form of listening and waiting to be divinely and/or intuitively guided. If you set the intention to become clear on next steps then release that intention and surrender from struggling to figure it out… you’ll be surprised to find that clarity will find you. If you stay open and if you listen!

8 | Deal With the Stuff

Sometimes we have personal matters in our lives that need our attention. We may not be fully addressing them and the weight of it is clouding decision making elsewhere. You may be diving into work to distract yourself. Take the time you need to sort though and face your personal matters so you come to your work with a clear head read to make empowered decisions.

Clarity can be a trickster. It can dance and flirt in front of you relentlessly yet never close enough for you to get a good look.  It doesn’t need to be so difficult.  We,however, make things difficult on ourselves through our hangups, trying too damn hard, feeling stuck in our ways and procrastinating. Take these tips, give them a whirl and see if you can move closer towards clarity in your business.
