You feel it?

The crisp morning air. The smell of fire places being lit.
You see the leaves beginning to change.

No doubt you see pumpkin being added to every conceivable food product too.

The Autumnal Equinox was Wednesday which means we’re into the new season.

You may not know that I was an acupuncturist with my own thriving practice in San Francisco before selling it last year to focus on LearnSavvy.

When you dedicate 10 intense years to a complicated medicine and practice, it is forever ingrained in what you do.

I figure why not share this unusual education as a way to improve our businesses and self-care. Right?

Today I’m excited to draw on all that stored knowledge and share how you can take advantage of the energy of the new season and prepare yourself for a productive and healthy Fall.

Here are 4 radically simple yet subtly powerful tips to harness the power of Autumn.

Breathe

The Fall season, in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is associated with the Lungs. This is the perfect time to do much more deep breathing. Your body, mind and business will all benefit from breathing in fresh, clean air (as well as breathing in new ideas and new relationships) and breathing out what no longer serves you, your business or your life.

For Yourself: Sit. Breathe. Reflect. Breathe in what you want and breathe out what you no longer want or need.

For Your Business: What can you “breathe into” to give it new life? What projects, products or relationships could use attention and calm focus? How can you better breathe as you move throughout your day and manage all the task a burgeoning or growing business requires?

Declutter

Everyone thinks of Spring cleaning as the best time to purge but Autumn is an even better time to rid yourself of clutter. Often you’re packing away your summer clothes and retrieving your winter wardrobe but you can take it one step further.

For Yourself: Go through your closets, your pantry and medicine cabinet and throw out, donate or sell items you no longer use or need.

For Your Business: When it comes to business, organize your desk, dump unnecessary paperwork and stale projects, and clear the way for a productive season. Don’t forget to dump out any stale unhealthy relationships that may not be serving you too. (Harsh yes, but necessary.)

Let Go

In TCM, this is also the season of letting go. Not only is this the season of the Lungs but also its paired organ the Large Intestine.  I will leave it to you to imagine what ‘letting go’ means when we’re talking about the colon.  Yep you guessed it it’s time to get rid of crap!

For Yourself: Working with the seasonal energy you will benefit for finding ways to let go of outdated beliefs, of stories that hold you back and to people who don’t have your best interest at heart. Do some excavating what may be holding you back from your dreams and work to let these fears and beliefs go.

For Your Business: When it comes to your business, it’s a wonderful time to let go of projects that no longer inspire you, products you sell that don’t reflect the direction you’re heading or partnerships and working relationships that simply just don’t work.

Redefine Your Self-Worth

This is the perfect season to ask yourself, “How do I define my self-worth?”.  The metal energy reflects our self-worth (I know this is complicated but it is reflective of nature and the metal energy giving value to the Earth as in gold, silver, and other precious metals). This is the time to check in and make sure you feel as valuable as you should and whether you are sharing your most precious gifts with the world.

For Yourself: Is your sense of self-worth connected with the external world – your achievements, your net worth, your collections, or your material possessions?  This season asks you to look at how you foster your self-worth and if it’s attached to external measures, it’s the perfect time to let that go too.

For Your Business: Are you focused on numbers, metrics, how many likes on Facebook, or how much money is in your account? Are you caught up in comparison-itis, everyday battling to stay on track with your business? Take this time to uncover healthier ways to measure your self-worth – get clear, deep and raw with your WHY – and let go of the rest.

Every season brings about change in our environment and also within ourselves (whether we realize it or not). Take the time to do a little inner exploration and revel in everything this new season has to offer.
