Each week – each day for that matter – we sit down and begin tackling our ever growing to-do list and diving into projects.
But do you thoughtfully and intentionally plan out your week taking into account your professional and personal priorities and focusing on your top goals – those items that will dramatically move your business forward?
Here are 5 questions to ask yourself each week when you sit down to plan, plot, scheme and dream.
1. What 1 thing can I remove from my to-do list (each day)?
It is so easy to continually pile item after item onto your to-do list. I love having a long list of crossed-off items by the week’s end. It feels like I accomplished a lot but if those items aren’t really moving my business forward then the list is really useless.
Imagine if the items you put on your list were so carefully added that crossing them off felt even more empowering. Go through your list daily and remove at lease one item that doesn’t need to be done or done by you. Focus on your priorities.
2. What 1 thing, if completed this week, will move my business forward?
When looking at your week, focus and schedule that one thing that will substantially move your business forward. Is it completing a specific project? Is it making a phone call you’ve been putting off? Is it calling 10 previous clients to check in with their results? Be intentional and place that one big thing (and perhaps the several smaller steps to get there) on the top of your to-do list and make sure to schedule (block time) the necessary steps to get there.
3. What 1 person could I reach out to this week that would support, help or further my business path?
Working from your home, home office, the coffee shop or co-working space it is easy to spend your days pounding away on your laptop or in your creative bubble producing to your heart’s content. However, business requires that you network, connect and relate to real people.
Is there a person you’ve been meaning to reach out to? Is there someone you’ve been wanting to reconnect with that you met at a networking event? Is there even someone that you want to research and begin sharing her stuff on social media in the hopes of eventually connecting directly with her? Block out time on your schedule to make this happen.
4. What 1 thing can I do to help someone else out?
We can get so caught up in our businesses that we often forget that we’re all on this journey together. We can do so much to help a fellow sister out if we take the time to look up. If you don’t belong to a networking group, mastermind or have an accountability buddy that you can easily and regularly provide insight and wisdom to, then hop on social media and help someone on a community Facebook or LinkedIn page. You often forget how much you already know and if you see someone asking for help – share your best tips, provide resources, or share your own experiences to help them on this shared journey.
5. What is my #1 top priority in life and have I given enough time this week to it?
Your #1 priority is totally personal to you. Do you know what it is? For many of us our top priority might be your partner, kids or parents. For others it is their spirituality, health or local community organization. Whatever it might be when you’re working away at your business do make sure that each week you also make time for the #1 priority. If it’s your business – then make sure #2 gets some love this week too!
