Whatever you may call them – when you’re running a business you cannot get to where you’re going without actually interacting and connecting with people.

In our age of being hyper-connected yet lacking real one-to-one connections, there is an even greater need – an overwhelming desire – to find others who you can relate to.

And when you’re starting and building a business there is a massive need to find a circle of people who not only support and guide you but who also just plain “get” what you’re going through.

Masterminds have been around for eons but they’ve become part of mainstream business culture ever since Napoleon Hill wrote about it in his book “Think and Grow Rich”.

“When a group of individual brains are coordinated and function in Harmony, the increased energy created through that alliance, becomes available to every individual brain in that group.” – Napoleon Hill

He further shares how when two or more people come together cooperatively a third invisible and powerful energy force is created – what he called the “Master Mind”.

Here are 8 Reasons Why You Need To Join A Masterminds Group

1. Accountability

Research has shown that you are more likely to reach your goals when you are accountable for accomplishing them. Often as lone business owners the person you’re accountable to is yourself and frankly that just isn’t enough. Few people have the discipline to stick to big, bold, scary goals and further to see them through in a timely manner. Having someone each week to report back to will keep you honest with staying the course and will help you get to where you want much faster!

2. Support/Reassurance

Starting and growing a business is a roller coaster of emotions. The highs and lows can make you feel unstable and even question whether this crazy manic life is for you. Unless your spouse, family or friends are also in business for themselves, they really won’t get what you’re going through. Having a circle of others going through the same highs and lows and who you can walk this wild path with make this journey so much more bearable enjoyable.

3. Shared Resources

There is always something to be learned when it comes to business and the landscape is constantly changing and evolving.  When you bring a group of smart, savvy and resourceful women together each person brings her own knowledge, experience and expertise to the group.  One woman might be savvy when it comes to copy writing, another when it comes to design and yet another knows her stuff when it comes to hiring/firing. Sharing tips, resources, best practices and more enables everyone to grow.

4. Antidote for Isolation

So many women start businesses in isolation. It could be because of their location (in a rural community or one that isn’t teeming with other biz owners) or due to caregiving responsibilities that keep them from activity networking. Others may be more on the introverted side and don’t enjoy going to networking events. Whatever the reason you don’t need to travel this long and sometimes arduous journey alone. A mastermind group can be just the ticket to keep feeling the isolation at bay!

5. The Collective Contribution

When people get together to solve a problem the results can be amazing. Hill highlighted that there is an additional invisible force that comes into place when two or more people come together. Solutions to a problem are plentiful when you have several heads all working on it together. This collective force grows too as the group works more and more together towards individual goals.

6. Encourage Big Thinking

Nothing gets the juices of big creative thinking flowing like getting a bunch of aspiring women business owners together. In the right group, the ideas pour forth. Ideas are stretched, questioned, added to, and played with. The group adds fuel to the creative fire stoking it further with “I bet you can go even bigger. I believe in you!”

7. Keeping You Honest

The one thing that has been invaluable in my own mastermind circle is how we’ve come to recognize each others patterns and self-sabotaging behaviors.  As a result, we can gently and lovingly point them out when we’re blinded by them. Often it’s met with “Damn it. Not again! Thank you.”

8. Discipline Mixed with Consistency

Who doesn’t need more of both, right? The weeks can zip by in a flash and it’s easy to have projects linger longer than necessary. When you meet with others each and every week to report back on your progress you become a more disciplined person. The consistency in knowing you need to perform and show up keeps you in action and the momentum going – leading you ever closer to your goals.

Mastermind groups are a powerful and totally fun way to reach your most important goals.  Don’t be surprised that after you form or join one that you see dramatic and amazing results in both your life and business.
